It only took about six weeks for developers to take all of the
theoretically creepy things the Internet dreamt up about the face
computer of the future and turn those into real-life Google Glass nightmares.
In addition to that creepy walking-and-stalking app Wink, Glassholes can appear forward to a porn app, plus apps that that get benefit of an upcoming facial recognition API. Yes, the reality of Glass wearers surreptitiously watching intercourse video clips is upon us: "Thanks on the imminent arrival of Google Glass porn, I just acquired creeped out for the initial time with regards to the prospect of the Glass-filled long term," writes CNET's Eric Mack. "Now I will forever have a disturbing visual stuck in my head with the disturbing visuals that Glass customers will likely be, nicely, sticking to the sides of their heads," he continues, right after watching this short, pretty SFW promotional video from MiKandi, a top adult Android app provider.
For most individuals, nonetheless, Google's new facial recognition API presents a more terrifying situation when it comes to creepiness ?a you already know, because of the privacy implications. The engineering will allow apps to, know, remember a encounter, come across your pals inside a crowd, match your interests to other creeps at networking occasions, and construct intelligent contact books, as Stephen Balaban a co-founder of API builder Lambda Labs explained. A few of that sounds valuable, but what should you do not want your face to get recognized? Is there any escape? And definitely this is often only the beginning of potentially unpleasant matters that coding dorks will build into laptop glasses in the future.
But we knew this would happen, didn't we? Remember all those articles
freaking about Google Glass as a huge privacy violation, so much so
that legislators want to make it illegal? Indeed, the bloggers predicted this.
Or, another theory: This is a self-fulfilling prophecy. All those
freak-out trend stories gave developers all the right ideas for how to
use Glass. Way to go, Internet. You've crowdsourced an army of cyborg
creeps.

Apple CEO Cook: 'More Game Changers in Us'
Although Apple (AAPL)
CEO Tim Cook did not announce any new products or whisper any secrets
at the All Things Digital tech conference on Tuesday, he did drop some
hints that Apple detectives can use to guess where the company is
heading.
Here are some of the most interesting tidbits from the interview:
In response, Cook said, "Well, we haven't so far. That doesn't shut off the future."
Cook also addressed Apple's taxes and a U.S. Senate subcommittee's invitation to testify on Apple's structures. "The subcommittee was coming to certain conclusions and we felt strongly that we looked at those very differently," Cook said. "I thought it was very important to go tell our story and to view that as an opportunity instead of a pain in the ass."
Cook repeated some things he has said before: Apple's stock drop has been painful for Apple's board and investors, but Apple's best response is to remain focused on making high-quality products.
"I think we have several more game changers in us," Cook said.
I asked Cook about Apple's iOS software, and whether the company needed to release a mobile-specific suite of software more like the iLife offering it created for Macs. He said Apple is focused on apps that show off the iPad's content creation chops.
"In the beginning we were very worried that people would only see the tablet as a consumption device," he said. "Do we need to do more? Yes, always. Always we need to do more. So you'll continue to see some cool things there."

At the exclusive tech conference in
Rancho Palos Verdes, Cook sat for an opening interview with hosts Walt
Mossberg and Kara Swisher that was most notable for the fact that it
happened at all. (Aside from Apple launches and command performances in
front of Senate committees, Cook rarely speaks at events.) The interview
ran about an hour and included a question-and-answer section but didn't
yield much concrete news.
- Apple has hired Lisa Jackson, the former head of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, to oversee Apple's environmental work from product to policy. Cook said she will report directly to him, suggesting she will be one of about a dozen direct reports (besides being the only woman and African American).
- Cook was cool to Google (GOOG) Glass, his rival's new wearable technology. The reason: Few people are eager to wear glasses unless they have to, and even then they want to make an unobtrusive fashion statement. He had nicer things to say about technology for the wrist, calling it "interesting," but said, "I think for something to work here, you first have to convince people it's so incredible that they want to wear it." He added, "If we had a room full of 10- to 20-year-olds, and we said, 'Everybody stand up who has a watch on,' I'm not sure anybody would stand up."
- When Mossberg pressed him on why there's just one new version of the iPhone released at a time while there are several iPods, Cook suggested that could change:
In response, Cook said, "Well, we haven't so far. That doesn't shut off the future."

Over the weekend, Samsung sent out invitations to a press
event in London to announce new items in its Galaxy (Android) and ATIV (Windows eight) product lines.
Samsung provided fairly number of specifics, but now it seems such as the firm will announce the Galaxy S4 Mini at its event on June twenty, a supply familiar using the matters advised The Wall Street Journal.
That jibes with the recently-discovered Galaxy S4 Mini spotted on Samsung's United kingdom website. Samsung has considering the fact that eliminated the merchandise from its web-site, but Engadget was capable to snag a screenshot beforehand.
Earlier this month, photographs in the smaller, less expensive, and much less highly effective model of Samsung's fastest-selling Android cell phone of all time leaked on Chinese social media internet site Weibo. Back in March, Sam Grobart of Bloomberg Businessweek reported the S4 Mini would possible go on sale quickly after the Galaxy S4, following his in-depth search at Samsung's headquarters in Korea.
The unveiling from the S4 Mini just three months following Samsung announced the Galaxy S4 wouldn't be too from the ordinary. Final yr, Samsung launched the Galaxy S3 Mini about seven months after releasing the Galaxy S3.Additional From Company Insider

Europe Wants To Know If Apple Has Rigged The Market For iPhone Sales
European watchdogs have invited mobile operators to weigh in on Apple’s
iPhone distribution tactics, over concerns they block competition from
other smartphone makers.
Operators have received a nine-page preliminary questionnaire from the European Commission,
focused on whether the deals that allow them to sell the iPhone are so
favourable to Apple that other manufacturers cannot compete fairly.
It asks whether clauses in the contracts guarantee that no other manufacturer gets a better deal than Apple on handset subsidies, according to The FT.
Apple is known for driving a hard bargain with operators, who believe they must offer the iPhone to compete for the most affluent subscribers. Sources at British operators said they are forced to fund Apple’s television advertising and guarantee a certain number of sales, for instance.
The Commission has information indicating that Apple and Mobile Network Operators (“MNOs”) have concluded distribution agreements which may potentially lead to the foreclosure of other smartphone manufacturers from the markets,” the questionnaire says.
The interest from regulators in Brussels comes after unidentified European mobile operators informally complained in March.
As well as distribution terms, the questionnaire also addresses how the iPhone works on 4G mobile broadband. There have been reports that Apple insists operators submit to independent testing of their networks before it allows the iPhone 5 to use them.
“There are also indications that certain technical functions are disabled on certain Apple products in certain countries in the EU/EEA. If the existence of such behavior were to be confirmed, it might constitute an infringement of [antitrust law],” the questionnaire says.
The iPhone now accounts for only around a quarter of the European smartphone market, so regulators may struggle to make a case for monopoly abuse. IIt adds to the regulatory pressure on Apple, however, after it was sharply criticized over its tax avoidance at a US Senate committee hearing last week.
Apple says it complies with all European laws.
Stronger competition in the last two years, particularly from Samsung and its Galaxy handsets, has limited Apple’s power. British operators are aiming to extract new concessions from the company when they negotiate distribution terms for the next iPhone, due out in August or September.
The European Commission is currently considering a formal complaint led by Nokia against Google over alleged anti-competitive behavior around Android, the search giant's smartphone operating system. It accounts for around 70pc of the market. Source: http://www.businessinsider.com/european-iphone-antitrust-probe-2013-5

Galaxy Grand Duos I9082 Receives Official Android 4.1.2 XXAME1 Jelly Bean Update [How to Install]
Samsung recently released its latest official Jelly Bean update, Android 4.1.2 XXAME1, for Galaxy Grand Duos I9082 in several countries including Poland, Greece, Baltic and Bulgaria. The firmware is now available for download via Samsung KIES as well as Over-The-Air (OTA) in select European countries only. However, those who failed to receive the OTA update notification or unable to access the update over Samsung KIES can download and install the same manually, using our step-by-step guide.
Android 4.1.2 XXAME1 Jelly Bean Firmware Details:
PDA: I9082XXAME1
CSC: I9082OXXAME1
Version: 4.1.2
Date: May, 2013
Key Points to Note
- XXAME1 official firmware and the instructions given in this guide are limited to the Galaxy Grand Duos I9082 model only and will not work on any other device. Verify the device's model number by navigating to Settings > About Phone.
- Back up important data and settings on phone using one of the recommended custom recovery tools such as ClockworkMod (CWM) or TWRP, as it creates a complete image of the existing phone setup.
- Make sure that the phone has at least 80% battery charge to prevent unexpected device shutdown (due to battery drain) during firmware installation, as this may inadvertently brick or damage the device.
- Verify that the correct USB drivers are installed for the phone on computer (download Samsung Galaxy Grand Duos I9082 USB drivers).
- Ensure that USB Debugging mode is enabled on the phone navigating to Settings > Developer Options (if the device is running on Android 4.0 or later) or Settings > Applications > Development (if the phone is running on Android 2.3 or earlier).
- As this is an official release, ensure that the device is not rooted (download Root Checker app). Unroot the device first (if it is already rooted), before proceeding with the firmware installation.
- Double check to see that the device is factory unlocked (not locked to a specific carrier) with CWM recovery installed on it.
- If "MD5 hash value is invalid"error message appears in Odin message box, then just re-download the firmware.
- The instructions provided in this guide are meant for reference purpose only. IBTimes UK will not be held liable if the device is damaged or bricked during or after the firmware installation. Users must proceed at their own risk.
Step 1: Download Android 4.1.2 XXAME1 Jelly Bean Official firmware for Galaxy Grand Duos I9082 and Odin v3.07 on your computer.
Step 2: Extract the downloaded firmware zip file to the desktop to obtain a '.tar.md5'file and some other files (optional).
Step 3: Extract Odin zip file to get Odin3 v3.07.exe as well as few other files.
Step 4: Power off the phone and wait for vibration (about 5 to 6 seconds) to confirm complete device shutdown. Now, boot the phone into Download Mode by pressing and holding Volume Down, Home and Power button together until a construction Android robot icon with a triangle appears on screen. Then hit Volume Up button to progress into Download Mode.
Step 5: Launch Odin3 v3.07.exe that you obtained in Step 3 as an Administrator, as Admin privileges are required to complete the installation process smoothly.
Step 6: Connect the phone to computer via USB cable. When the phone is connected successfully, Odin's message box says "Added!" in the bottom left of the screen. If the message fails to appear, then try another USB port (preferably the one at the back of your desktop computer). If all else fails, just reinstall the phone's USB drivers on computer. Once the "Added!!" message appears in Odin, you can proceed to the next step. At this point, the ID: COM box will turn yellow with the corresponding COM port number suggesting that the device is added successfully.
Step 7: Choose the following files from I9100DXLSD folder that you extracted in Step 2 using respective checkbox options:
- Select the PDA checkbox, and click the file named'.tar.md5'(required)
- Choose the Phone checkbox, and select the file named'modem'(ignore if the file is not found in the extracted folder)
- Click the CSC checkbox, and choose the file named 'CSC' (ignore if the file is missing)
- Choose the PIT checkbox, and click the .pit file. (ignore if there is no such file)
Step 9: Verify if Step 7 and Step 8 are done correctly. Then hit the START button to begin the flashing process.
Step 10: Once the firmware installation is complete, your phone will reboot automatically and soon a PASS message with green background appears in the left-most box at the very top of Odin. Now, safely unplug the USB cable to disconnect the device from computer.
The Galaxy Grand Duos I9082 is now running on Android 4.1.2 XXAME1 Jelly Bean official firmware. Go to Settings > About Phone to verify the firmware update installed.
Troubleshooting:
If the phone is stuck at boot animation or Samsung logo after Step 10, then go to recovery mode (press and hold the Volume Up, Home and Power buttons together) and perform Wipe data/Factory Reset as well as Wipe Cache Partition before tapping reboot system now. NOTE: Use Volume keys to navigate between options and Power key to select an option in recovery. Please note that performing a data wiping task will only erase the phone's internal memory data, but not the contents of SD card.
